The recent flooding in the Midwest has impacted numerous lives, destroyed homes, and caused enormous damage to local and state infrastructure. Genworth shares in the loss felt by many impacted by these disasters. As a result, we are committed to doing everything we can as a company to help with relief efforts in order to minimize the impact of this disaster on our customers, producers, and associates.

Our Service Centers are prepared to quickly process loan requests and claims when they are received and special handling procedures are now in place for requests for withdrawals and address and phone number changes.

In general, for affected individuals, Genworth will extend grace periods; limit policy cancellations, lapses, and non-renewals; and provide additional time to gather the necessary documentation for life, long-term care, Medicare supplement, and other accident and health insurance application documentation and premiums. Genworth will also institute special handling arrangements for the payment of life and health claims to ensure timely delivery in affected areas.

Genworth has set-up dedicated customer service number for affected individuals at 1-866-253-1334. Please call us if you are a customer in an affected area and we will do everything we can to help you through these difficult times.

For Affected Policyholders in the States Impacted by the Recent Flooding Genworth will Provide the Following:

  1. Genworth will withdraw any cancellation or nonrenewal notice for the time period required by the state on any in-force policy issued to an affected policyholder and reinstate the policy with no lapse in coverage.
  2. Genworth will not issue any new cancellation or nonrenewal notice to affected policyholders until the expiration of the state moratorium.
  3. Genworth will grant affected policyholders an extension of any and all policy provisions or other requirements that impose a time limit for an insured or claimant to perform any act, including the submission of a claim or proof of loss, reporting of information, submission of bills, or payment of funds. The extension must be for a minimum of 60 days from the last date allowed or required under the terms of the policy or contract, or longer if deemed reasonable given an individual consumer's circumstance.
  4. Genworth will provide 60-day moratorium on cancellation of any insurance policy in effect for any policyholder residing within the impacted areas and a suspension of any penalty attached to late payment therein. This is not a waiver, but rather only an extension of the grace period. After the 60 days, the policyholder will be required to resume making premium payments. This applies only to cancellations/nonrenewals attributed to a failure to pay premium during the 60 day period.
  5. If an underwriting or rating rule cannot be met as the result of the disaster, Genworth will consider making exceptions to those requirements.
  6. Genworth will post on its company website all actions taken to implement the requirements of the bulletin at www.genworth.com.
  7. Genworth will advise its Illinois policyholders of the availability of the IL Division of Insurance for filing a complaint regarding any disaster-related dispute or issue. Any policyholder wanting to file a complaint may call the IL DOI's toll-free complaint hotline at 1-866-445-5364, or file a complaint online at: http://www.idfpr.com/doi/Complaints/Complaints.asp
